Gift Ideas for Christmas 2014

 Gift Ideas for Christmas 2014

Hello readers. It was a rough year, not just for me, but for all of us. We were all stressed and worn out, who wouldn't be? Conflicts in school, friends, family and most of the time, work. Well, well, well, all of these things are just normal. Based on my own perception, this is the core reason why we exist on the first place. It is to experience the worst in our lives in order to make the best of it.

It's the time in the year again where people celebrate and as a part of the big celebration is a Christmas wish list. Christmas spirit is in the air. People came rushing in the malls to buy gifts for themselves or for their love ones. Christmas playlist keep on playing while doing your Christmas shopping. Little children are caroling from house to house. Christmas parties, reunions with family and friends, gifts of different sizes and colors and, above all, Christmas break! I bet everyone is looking forward for the Christmas break, especially for the students like me. School has made me forgot what life is. So this is the perfect time refresh and relaxes.

Since online shopping is "in" today, here's some legit sites list I saw online. The good thing with online shopping is that you won't be stressed anymore to go to the crowded malls and fall in the very long line to the cashier. I get stressed easily especially when shopping in crowded malls. With that, instead of enjoying the moment, it's stressing me out.

2015 Doodle And Scribble Planners

I found some cute planners from Filed. OMG. This planner looks so irresistable. I'm not an organized person and one of my new year's resolution is to be "more organized".I'm not an organized person and one of my new year's resolutions is to be "more organized". This is very helpful for another busy year, especially with the fact that I will start my thesis next year! I'm really nervous and excited for the coming year. This is perfect for students who will be suffering from academics for next year. You can give this to your friend, your cousin or a disorganized person like me. lol. This is a nice way to start a new year.

Foot wear from Zalora

I browsed over their items and I found a nice selection of women's footwear at Zalora. I badly need these to complement my outfit for the coming defenses next year. One of my friends told me that Zalora offers quality products, with that thought; I guess I would try buying one for this Christmas. I read some good reviews coming from this site and I guess it's worth the try. This site looks legit.

Aside from shoes, they also offer some nice dress that I badly wanted to try! Well, I'm looking forward to try some of their products.

Kokology Book
kokology \ kô kôl´ ôjê \ n [Japanese, - kokoro, mind, spirit, feelings + Greek, -logia, the study of]
It's one of the best gifts you could ever give to someone who admire books so much! Basically, it is a book that could help you get to know yourself more. I tried it actually and I tell you, it can help you get to know yourself more, your strengths and weaknesses. It has also some tips and advises. More information here.

Note to readers: This is not a sponsored post.

Before I end this post, I would like to greet everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

A Quest for Friendship

A Quest for Friendship

As you walk through the journey of your life, different kinds of people you will meet- acquaintances, classmates, officemates, board mates and so on. Life is a never ending process where you will be exposed to different perspectives and personalities that can affect you in some ways. Sometimes, you just won't notice that some people actually teach you life lessons that you will need in the near future. It is actually a good thing to mingle with the people whose views in life are different because in that way, you will be exposed to a different dimension of thinking.

As a matter of fact, not all people whom you meet will appreciate you like how your old friends do. Sometimes, people whom you thought were true friends were just acquaintances. As we grow older and become more mature, you will realize how big the gap between the ideal and reality. In reality, when people go together and have fun, it doesn't mean they are true friends to each other. Sometimes, all they need is just an accompany. It's a mutual relationship. They go together just to keep them company. Sometimes, they are not even comfortable sharing secrets or venting out some problems. They go together but there's still that gap.

Basically, what is the difference between real friends and just friends?
Well, you call them real friends when they are on your side whatever happens. They will wait for you to finish your meal even though that would mean that she will be late with you for your next class. True friends do not trash talk behind your back, they will tell you if something is wrong. True friends also do not make fun of you in an offending manner. Though sometimes, sarcasm is normal for close friends. Sometimes, friends do drift away and lost communication, but mind you, real friends catch up with each other and you still have that "connection" even after a while of not having a communication. Your real friends are always there for you especially at the times when you needed them the most.

Friends are the people who you eat out with and have fun with. But “just friends” do not have that "special and unique" connection like real friends. You share same interests and do a hobby together. Though that person is your friend, sometimes you are hesitant to share a secret or a problem to that person. You do not trust your friends so much like your real friends. Also, some friends just suddenly become invisible. They are just your friends when you can still feel that "gap", and you know what I mean.

Finding a real friend is a challenge to everyone. You can't buy friendship in the malls or somewhere else. That unique connection that you develop with a close (real) friend is difficult to develop. These days, it is hard to find someone who's brain's wavelength connects with you.  Now, my challenge is this, who are your "real friends" and "just friends"? What are your ways of categorizing people? Well, I'm quite curious,

Finals.

Finals.
A BIG cup of Cafe latte for finals.

"My hope of passing is like the picture above, it slowly fades away."

Math, food engineering and what else? What more can this little brain hold? I've been studying for days now but it seems that the information that I am trying to retain and remember is like an air. It's like bubble that becomes nothing after popping. This post was written by a college student who is now on the middle of her final exams. Her days became doomed with the thought that this could be her last chance of literally passing the subjects, I have tried to pass the exams a number of times, tried to remember how it was solved, the formula and all, but often, my mind could not help but to wander in stressful times. I could not help it, it wanders unconsciously.

This post was entitled "Finals" mainly because this could be my final post with some little hope of passing in my hands. I could let that little hope fly away after the test and the odds begin. I wonder what will happen if I became unfortunate and fail again. Fail again. It's hard to describe how I felt when I failed. It's like choosing from drowning in the vast sea, being choked by a tight rope or being hit by a gun. It's really hard to choose which is the safest way to die. That "safe" in my last sentence becomes ironic. Nobody is safe until he/she dies. But what I meant with the safe there was the hope that you could still be possibly alive after the dramatic moment occurs.

To be a student in the University of the Philippines is no joke. It has tested me and I had tried proving myself. Well, I have also experienced one of the greatest down fall in my life, that was when I received my first ever failing grade after years and years of schooling. In addition to that, that caused my delay in my schooling so instead of four years, it became five years. Yes that's right and I'm on my fourth dreadful year. I cried tears and blood. I experienced and saw myself at my lowest possible point. With that, I am more capable of knowing who I am and what I am capable of.

After all, all this things will be paid off. I hope so, because not everybody who graduates college has the opportunity to get a good job and a good salary. But today is not the right time of thinking that the future may fail me.

My life in pictures: Blissful moments

My life in pictures: Blissful moments

Hello readers! First of all, I want to thank you for still visiting my old and boring blog. But hey, this post will be all about my life again.

December is the last month of everything in the academic calendar in the University of the Philippines. Since it’s the finals, my schedule is very hectic as what my notebook says, there are lots of things to re-learn again and so on. Just this month, my Animal Science classes just ended. I learned how to make a ham, bacon, banana chips and so on. I just became an amateur food processor. I was amazed knowing that things like those need some calculations. Math is really very applicable, well of course depending to which department or field you are in. I am now on my Calculus and I do not know if I am to apply it in the near future.

I also attended an event in JavaJive. Well, as you can see, they offer lots of healthy cupcakes and chocolates. That was a blast with my fellow bloggers and chilling out. The acoustic band was really wonderful, they have angelic voices and the blending of the voices is just incredible! You really have to try it!

My sister and I went to the MTS, just after the blog event (JavaJive) and saw this Christmas tree. I can feel the Christmas spirit and I'm more than excited!

Lastly, just last week, my close college friend, Angelica Jomoc and I went to the streets of Davao City and looked a place to chill. Well, we're bombarded with lots of scholastic activities this week and we need to break free. As a child of UP and of the rural areas of this city, I rarely go to the busy streets and to the malls. Well, I think this was our day. We talked for hours about life. I’ll be missing things like this when we graduate. We spent our moment at Anniepie and I tried their Cafelatte. I am not a coffee lover but this drink is a must try.

For the mean time, you can check my food/lifestyle blog: www.madayawdavao.wordpress.com

Perhaps.

Sometimes I let my mind wander into the wilderness of my imaginations. I drown myself to the depths of my subconscious mind. I am overhelmed with the power of the human mind. It's power to create such vivid vision. I wonder how those ideas were beautifully crafted and created. Are the visions just a mere fiction or is there something more? Do these imaginations has something to do in the other dimension of the so called "real" world? How did the human mind ever think that a parallel universe may exist? Is it just an idea that popped out in a writer's head or is it a memory from a past?

Books, novels and movies that deals with different kind of dimension other than the real world entices me to reflect and think how could these ideas be existing. It may mean something more that most of us prefer not to care and bother. It could mean something that is beyond the posibilities here in this world. It may be something that contadicts the laws of nature and untrue. But things keep on evolving, like science, like animals and like us. Let us keep in mind that going to the moon was once impossible. Who knows, everything could turn around and all of your imaginations such as centaur, parallel world, speaking animals and plants may come to reality.

My mind tricks me a lot. Perhaps all those mythical creatures exist in other world or perhaps its just me.

Yakimix & Vikings with Best friends.

Yakimix & Vikings with Best friends.
My food reviews can be found on my lifestyle blog {www.madayawdavao.wordpress.com}.

Before the month of November ended, two of my best friends namely Carl (Oct. 27) and Leamie (Oct. 15) had their birthday blast! The top three photos were taken at Yakimix in Davao City. Well, that was my first time to try such kind of buffet. It was a blast because the flavorings of the different meat choices are bombarded with different kinds of aroma and twisted tastes! Every bite could give you a whole different kind of experience. You can taste a lot of tastes! Some of the meats that I’ve tried are sweet, spicy, and full of aroma. It was my first time to try such thing. Of course, some of the meats are presented raw but the flavorings are already mixed to the meat. You’re actually the one who’s going to grill.

The other three pictures were taken at Vikings in SM Lanang, Davao. Vikings is one of the most known buffets we have here in our city because it offers luxurious dishes, along with it is its high price. Hmmm, I’m not into spending so I can’t afford to try every restaurant with high prices. With that, it was my first time to try it. Guess what! It’s heaven! All dishes that you can think of are there! I even tried jelly fish. It was weird because it has a rubber kind of feeling. I have not taken a picture of it in which I regretted but I really enjoyed it!

I just feel happy because among of their friends, they chose to celebrate it with us. We are in college and we have bonded and gained lots of new friends but we are still close like we used to. Every time we are together, I tend to forget that we’re college students and not high school anymore. I think when you have someone or a group of friends or people in which you can be the true you and don’t judge you, don’t let them go. Most people these days judge you for who you are, but treasure people who will accept the true you.

Best friends: Carl, Lea, Jaiza and Me. (Massy, Shajanie and Kathrina arent in the picture too sad) Photo by: Jaiza

It really is difficult to find true friends in college (based on what I have experienced). In college, you and your classmates have different priorities, goals, likes and dislikes. People tend to be more mature in a sense that you are limited to what to show from yourself. Yes, there are real pals out there but hey, you are no longer in high school, people are so busy preparing for their future. Well, I’m greatly attached to my high school buddies though we rarely meet in a year.

Because things have changed since we graduated from high school. We grew, got different college degrees, had a bunch of new friends, different priorities and etc. I, on the other hand, became more comfortable when alone. Well, most of times, I am alone, at school, at the mall or somewhere. Though I’m happy when I’m all alone, my high school buddies reminds me what it is to be with the people whom you call "best friends".

My kind of student life in UP.

My kind of student life in UP.

I've been really busy these past few weeks. First, I'm busy eating countless power points and science related reading materials (like literally), next, I'm also an active member in my organization in school, and lastly, my dearest social life. It turned out that my social life became my last priority when I reached college. I think this is normal if you are studying in a state university. But of course, everything has its good side. Well, one of the advantages of studying here in UP is that you'll be attached to nature. UP is situated in a place where the urban and rural meets, so it’s like enjoying the perks of both worlds.

As you see above, trees are everywhere. Left to right is all green. I really love staring blankly in this area when I find time since my building is a few meters away from this building. It makes you realize a number of things. I can’t explain what those things are but it is something worthwhile.

Just this week, DULA 2014 started. It's like an intramurals in other schools. I’m not fond of dancing myself so I just cheered for my batch mates who joined different sports-related activities. Things like these make me love my student life. Memories like these are to cherish for a life time. One day, my student life shall end and all of these will just be a memory to linger on. When time shall make me older, these things will be my treasure.

Last Wednesday, I came in late in my 8:00am class. I reached the school 8:29 a.m. and so I doubt if I’ll still come to class. I blame the jeepney driver, and all innocent people which have contributed to my lateness. I didn’t pressure myself so instead, I went to somewhere where I can relax and sit until my next class.

I sat to a cottage and after sometime, I started reading an e-book entitled: Sophie’s World. My eyes are dropping and I lie down and looked blankly to the trees. Until I realized I must share it to the world and captured it. And here it goes; the picture above says it all. The cool and fresh breeze that touches your hair and your sweet face, it’s fascinating. Not every people have an opportunity like this especially when you are living at the center of the city. I am lucky to be experiencing these while at school. Most of my classmates complain about their schools. They hated to be in their school, while I love to be in here.

I wonder what you guys are up to. :) How's school?

Aling Foping's Halo-halo

Aling Foping's Halo-halo

In relation to my post, Jelly Citea, this next food review is still found at the MTS (Matina Town Quare). As you see, I visit this place often. Well, this place used to be plain with just bench and play grounds around. First of all, I am not a drinker or a party person; I simply visit this place because it has lots of new restaurants and foods to be tried on. One day, my blogger friends, Jonas and Kevin wanted me to try Aling Foping's Halo-halo and so, this is the post is all about.

I regretted for not taking pictures of the place that time but it’s just a simple place. It is not air-conditioned so that you would enjoy the cool breeze of the air while eating your halo-halo. The halo-halo comes in a medium sized plastic container. Upon ordering, they will be giving a checklist and you must choose at the maximum of six items to be added on your halo-halo. Good thing I chose the best ingredients namely Langka, Leche Flan, Pinipig, Red Mongo, Saba and Ube.

The checklist

Personal Picks: Please refer to my chechlist

Budget: Php 85 to Php100
VALUE: ★★★★☆☆(The price, for me as a student, is a bit high.)
ATMOSPHERE:★★★★☆ (The place is good as you can breathe fresh air..)
SERVICE:★★★★☆ (Good.)
FOOD:★★★★☆ (Creamy halo-halo)

BUCKETLIST UNLOCKED #1: To be able to play in UP

BUCKETLIST UNLOCKED #1: To be able to play in UP
When I was a freshman, I joined the Freshmen Night and got mesmerized with the bands playing in front of me. Ever since high school, or grade school I guess, I always dreamt to be able to play in front of a crowd. Well, UPmin AMPLI( UP Mindanao Association of Musicians Playing Loud Instruments) gave me an opportunity to achieve my dreams. They introduce me more to music. With that, I even loved music more.

I never had an opportunity to play in our campus. I have joined a battle of the bands before in a local bar here in my city. Well, I was excited and nervous at the same time. The first time I played in front of a crowd, which is in a bar, I almost can't move my fingers. I was very nervous, my hands are sweating cold and I can't move them properly. I almost want to die in front of the crowd since my first performances aren't that good. Well of course, maybe of pressure. Most of my audience is inclined to music and professional. And then what does an amateur guitarist like me could offer? lol. But I'm not saying I didn't like the experience, that was actually the best experience I ever had in my entire life! Well, it's a childhood dream come true.

FAST FORWARD on October 10, 2014, which is last friday. It was our Freshmen Night 2014. Luckily for God's sake, we were given an opportunity to play during the Battle of the bands. The band's name is  "Insta" simply because we are into pop songs. We played Pompeii and; Safe and Sound by One Republic. Well, we haven't even had a legit practice with our drummer! But, all I can say is that, our performance is not that bad at all! At least for me.

So far, this is our only legit picture.

I'm the one on guitar (Rhythm). I'm so happy that night since my classmates and friends are really very supportive. They come near me and took a selfie. I was really touched. I became an instant celebrity for a night! I was also touched with my bandmates because we never thought that we could push this through because we had only our first and last studio practice the night before, though we have acoustic jams.

Well, the experience is unforgettable. The spot light is all yours (along with my bandmates). I can't see the crowd clearly since all I can see is black. I don't know who's who. It was also my first time to play without any nervousness. I was shocked by the fact that my hands aren't sweating. There I am, playing happily and enjoying the show. I can't help to smile with that feeling of playing in front of a crowd. It's priceless.

Jelly Citea

Jelly Citea

This food post has something to do with one of my favorite drinks, the milk tea. Well, if you are to visit Davao City, different milk tea restaurants are built across the city. Kangaroo Cafe, Alley Cat, Coffee Cat and Green Cafe, just to name some. Truly, this lovely city is prigressing very rapidly that in just a year, lots and lots of milk tea restaurants arose.

Every weekend or every time I have vacant time, in which I rarely have, my friends and I try to take advantages of these milk tea restaurants. We are so food adventurous that we look forward to try one food to another. Our feet brought us in MTS (Matina Town Square). Well, this place is very calm and relaxing when the sun is still up but become a party ground when the sets. Usually, this place starts to be noisy at 8pm. Different bands will start to play and people will begin to drink and party.

I haven't taken a picture of the place since it didn't come in my mind but maybe, I'll try it next time. Well, there are a lot of milk teas to choose from! But I tried Wintermelon Rock Salt and Cheese and Macau. Based on my dull memory, the large sized will cost you Php 90 while the small one is in Php 80 something. I ordered the Winterwatermelon Rock Salt and Cheese in sized small tumbler. It is chocolate flavored and my taste buds loved the taste since I am a chocolate lover. It has some sago and it and you won't really regret to try it if you have a sweet tooth.

Macau is a different story though. I ordered it in large size tumbler. At the first sip, all I can taste is a tea with a bitter taste as an after taste. At first, I didn't appreciate it. It is topped with some creamy cheese. Until when I am halfway, I thought of mixing the mixture and POOF! I never thought that it would be this good! It is not as sweet as the Wintermelon but it has an adorable taste since it has a cheese on its top. Well for me, it’s not main stream like the winterwatermelon and definitely worth a try!

Personal Picks: Wintermelon Rock Salt and Cheese and Macau (Haven't tried the other milk teas).

Budget: Php 50 (if you are to order the small size tumbler) to Php 150 per milk tea.

VALUE: ★★★★ ★(Affordable!)
ATMOSPHERE:★★★★☆ (The place is okay, not too spacious, they also have this post-note messages from the customers.)
SERVICE:★★★★☆ (Good.)
FOOD:★★★★★ (I recommend this!)

Saging Repablik

Saging Repablik

Last September 11, 2014, we visited the Saging Repablik along the Tionko avenue, corner V mapa street, Davao City. Basically, Banana Repablik primarily offers viants and dishes that is incorporated with Saging or Banana (in english). Davao City is one of the main producers of Banana in the country. It is because Davao is a tropical city which has rich soils for banana to grow. Sometimes, it is also exported to the different countries. The owner has innovated a restaurant which promotes Davao City and Philippines as a whole.

Saging Repablik opened its doors to the public last June 27, 2014. Though this restaurant is just months old, there are already people who franchised and invested to this banana-themed restaurant. This unique concept has made it successful. With this, they invited bloggers to join their Blogger's night.

Hello readers! How are you? Well, Sorry for this late post. Anyway, Last month, which is August, we visited this store along the Tionko Avenue. It is called Mix N' Magic. I never heard of this store before but this originated in Gensan and fortunately, it has made it's way here in Davao. This post is mouth-watering so save your mouth juices and visit this store!

The following pictures were taken during the product presentation of the said store.

Toryano's Chicken Haus

Toryano's Chicken Haus
This post will just be quick but I'll be reviewing the Toryano's Chicken Haus that is located at The Peak, Gaisano. There are lots of Toryano's Chicken haus branch in the city but we are Gaisano at that moment so we tried it.

We ate there last June 7, 2014, after the Etsy Craft Party that was hosted at the Yellow Hauz, along with my friends. Well, it is basically a restaurant whose specialty is focused mainly on grilled menu such as pork and chicken. But other than that, they also offer other menu such as pancit and etc.

I'm ready to eat!

Toryano's Chicken haus
Well, this restaurant offer different kinds of combo meals. Every combo meal is equivalent to an unli rice (horaay!). Filipinos, like me, surely like unlirice menu. For this post, I'll be reviewing their cheapest combo meal and the price plays somewhere in Php60 - Php70. Their combo 1 meal is equivalent to two (2) pork barbecues, an atsal and an unlimited rice.

The pork barbeque tastes is good and tender. It is really tasty and worth your money. Well just to say, I would prefer eating here and spending extra 10-15 pesos rather than eating in fast food chains. In addition to that, this barbecue is just like the other barbeques that are being served in the other restaurants. Not really something special but surely something that is worth your budget.

Well, you might want to try their other combo since they also offer native chicken and pork chop meal.

Toryano's Combo Meal #1

Toryano's Combo Meal #1 (plus an unlimited rice)

I just realized something, maybe they can make their services faster. My friends and I waiter for several minutes and we have to follow up our orders. I'm also quite surprised because it's not a busy hour and there were only few customers.

I've also searched the net and found same reviews. Well, there is still a big room for improvement.

(Left to Right) Kathrina, Me and Carl

I picked the top four important points in reviewing this restuarant and here it goes:

Budget: To avail the cheapest order, your budget must be Php 70 (Combo 1). Drinks are not included.

VALUE: ★★★★☆ ( Well, its affodable.)
ATMOSPHERE:★★★☆☆ (It's air conditioned)
SERVICE:☆☆ (There's still a room for improvement in terms of service)
FOOD:☆☆ (The food is okay.)

The chocolate pizza made  with marsmallows, cream and some Kitkat chocolate wafers. I also love this, but I the pizza is too small for its price. Well, I'm not satisfied with this one but it's okay. The price ranges from Php300 to Php400.

The ambiance inside
The ceiling has some cuvy shape which is very attractive and also, some colorful circles.

Overcoming Procrastination.

Overcoming Procrastination.
Hi readers! How are you? For today's topic, I am going to discuss something that everyone can relate. This is something we have in common, well if not, at least most of us. It's PROCRASTINATION. You guilty? Well, I am too. First, let's define procrastionation. According to the merriam-webster.com, it is an act to to delay doing something until a later time because you do not want to do it, because you are lazy. Seems right isn't? Life is simple but we make it complicated. Every time we procrastinate things that must be done today, and then do it again tomorrow, the tendency is that it will load on the weekend. Then you'll feel overloaded and desperate! Instead of just relaxing, having a cup of tea and listening to some soothing music during the weekend, you are cramming for things that will be submitted next week. Then you would blame yourself every weekend why you didn't do it during the weekdays. That becomes a cycle. It's like an cycle of infinity, it never ends. That cramming part is already a stress. To make this short, you are making your life miserable and stressful! You know that this stresses you out but you never act to stop it.

I am a procrastinator myself and as much as possible, I would like to control this urge to procrastinate. I always tell myself, "Oh, I'm tired, maybe I can do that after breakfast". Then the moment after breakfast, lots of distractions arises. DISTRACTIONS. How could you focus yourself if you are surrounded with distractions? Well, the answer is DISCIPLINE. It's hard to attain and it requires a daily practice. Start disciplining your thoughts. Your mind is like the mitochondria of a cell. It is the cell's power producer. Think something productive and think of doing it. Don't listen to the liar voice in your head which says, "Oh, I'm tired, I want to procrastinate". With the correct thoughts, you can give power to your body to accomplish the tasks.

To overcome procrastination, learn to set goals. Example, " I must finish this before the day ends...etc". Next is to set a reward system everytime you accomplish a task. Treat yourself for lunch once you have finished the task or give yourself a gift. The next step is one of the hardest step which is stop making excuses and complaning. Forget about the excuses, just do it! As I said, control yourself. Discipline. Lastly, Just say, I'll do it", and do it!

Bulgogi Brothers Davao

If you are a k-pop fan or love the Korean culture, this post of for you! Well, this is my first time to try authentic Korean dishes and I tried it with Bulgogi Brothers.

Last July 10, 2014, Bulgogi Brothers conducted a food media roll-out for the existing promo. Bloggers were invited to try their platters, Korean BBQ specials, and affordable lunch set meals. When I entered the restaurant, I was pleased when the staffs greeted me “annyeonghaseyo” which means “Hello” in English. We were seated on the corner of the said restaurant and everything is already set.
