All About Watercolor and Koi Waterbrush Review

All About Watercolor and Koi Waterbrush Review

Hi there! this post will be all about my new hobby, the water color painting. I found this medium exciting and challenging. I was also inspired by some of my favorite artists whose medium is watercolor. Mind you, I'm just a noob in watercolor. I just want to share my "progress" and my experiences to other newbies.

Watercolor art materials.
My basic water color art supply: Prang Watercolor (Php250), Canson watercolour paper (Php50) and watercolor in tubes. They were all bought at the NBS. On the other hand, Koi water brush (Php 195) was bought at Morning Light Art Gallery Shop. I also own some brush but forgotten to include at the picture.

Koi water brush (medium)
This is my first water brush and I was astonished when I first used it. It's very handy and lightweight. It perfect when you do your artwork outdoors. The bristles are light when I first bought it but as I use it, I had observed that the colors tend to stick but don't worry it won't leak out. I think it's normal.

What's great about this is that the bristles are made of nylon and do not fall out easily. I think I'm in love with this water brush.

I also love the tube since it's quite long at 9ml. I can't even consume it entirely and I'll just cover it with the black lid.

Closer look
As what I have noticed, the water tend to flow all throughout. I guess I can handle with it as I am still adjusting to water brush. For the quality, I can say that it's great for it's price. Haven't tried other water brush so I can't compare it with other brands. But for beginners like me, this is a great start.

A diy color palette
I just want to share with you my diy color palette. I just used an old make up for this and squeezed out the colors from the tube. It's handy dandy and travel size.

I shamelessly posted these pictures for your reference. I used prang watercolor and koi water brush here.

I believe my works will improve in time! Thanks for reading! I will be doing reviews with prang water color and canson watercolor paper, so stay put!

How about you readers, have you tried painting using watercolor before?

Baking Workshop at The Philippine Baking Institute (PBI)

Baking Workshop at The Philippine Baking Institute (PBI)

Some of the basic ingredients for baking

I am a food technologist and I have some background with the science behind baking. Though I don't really bake at home, baking is one of the things skills I badly want to develop. Luckily, Philippine Baking Institute (PBI) invited us for a 1-day bread and pastry workshop. I was excited of course since this will be an opportunity for me to broaden my knowledge about such things.

Brownies!

Pineapple tart
I never thought making tarts and brownies are not that complicated at all!

We baked Pan desal, loaf bread and sweet dough. We also made butterscotch, brownies and pineapple tart. As I expected, I did enjoyed it so much. The instructors are also respected able, nice and approachable. The equipment are new and there's so much to try on. It was all worth it.

I also realized that baking breads needs more effort than pastries.

This is how it looks on the inside.

I was thinking of enrolling for a baking class and expanding my skills in this area. It might be helpful in the future, who knows!

Movie review: Artificial Intelligence (2001)

Movie review: Artificial Intelligence (2001)
A poster I got from the internet

Haley Joel Osment as David
Robots these days are widely known to the human race ever since. Simple robots became complicated in structure as time passes, as the inventors try to imitate the human body and the brain. It is not shocking, with these advances we have today, that one day, human race might create a robot that can also act and has emotions like a human. This movie depicts the future of our technology. Could robots replace the human race? What would happen if the human race will extinct? What will happen to the future?

Jake Thomas as Martin Swinton
Artificial intelligence is an intelligence what machines has. Software is also under this kind of intelligence. A human-like artificial robot was adopted by a couple who has a son whose condition is critical. As time passes, certain disadvantages has come up a long the way.

The robot, whose name is David, has to surrender back to the company for disposal. Unfortunately, Monica, his "mom" developed an affection and care towards David so instead, she abandoned the boy in the forest along  with the teddy bear who is also a robot.

David met Gigolo Joe along the way and exprienced adventures. At the end, what the boy wants is to be real in order to be accepted by Monica, his "mom".

This story is about a real love towards a boy to his mom. This story is an adventure of an A.I boy who wants to be a real boy to be accepted. His love is real but he is not.

Cake Gallerie
Welcome to "Cake Gallerie"
Address (in case you want to visit it): 1st Ave. Tulip Drive, Juna subd., Matina, 8000 Davao City, Philippines

These days, coffee shops are too mainstream. How about trying Cake shops? When you visit Davao there are a lot of coffee shops anywhere and worth a try. It happened to be I had visited this Cake Gallerie whose products are very yummy in an affordable price! It is a business from Davao which is home-based.

Last week, we visited Cake Gallerie. It is found in Matina, Davao City. I didn't expect it to be this perfect. It is a shop that was built in front of the owner's house. The ambiance is perfect for studying since the background music is really nice and isn't disturbing. The prices are really affordable. The chocolate mousse cake that I bought is more or less Php 58.00 while the Red Velvet cake is worth Php 68.00. Believe me, once you'll take a bite with this puffy creamy and coated with love cakes, you'd forgot your name for a second! This is perfect for family and friends bonding or you can also eat here alone. I'll recommend this to everyone.

This is what it looks like at the front. The ambiance from the outside seemed to be western. We had also talked to the very kind owner. She revealed that she was the one who cooked these delicious delights. She is a Culinary Arts graduate herself, too bad we didn't have a picture with her.

At the corner, there is a wooden divider which contains all the photos of the happy customers who were once been there. They also have this guest book wherein they let to let their customers to sign it up.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Sixth Day

MOVIE REVIEW: The Sixth Day

The Sixth day, which was directed by Roger Spottiswoode, has a very intriguing theme which is cloning. In the movie, although cloning in animals is widespread, it is still illegal to clone a human. To do so is to commit a violation called "Sixth Day Violation". The arguments against cloning cover the spectrum from religious to philosophical to scientific. Lots of questions may arise, such as, are they human? Do they have souls? In the movie, when they clone a human, every part of that person is preserved; even the memory is also preserved. When the person dies and cloned, it is just as in that person has just got a new body since the memories are still there.

There are lots of benefits if human cloning is allowed, lots of diseases may be cured. Diseases like cancer, liver failure, kidney failure, leukemia, cystic fibrosis and defective genes may be treated faster. This may also provide organs for transplantation and a solution to infertility. Human life span may be prolonged and this may also lead to immortality. Through this kind of technology, we can clone the famous people that have become very popular and lead the world or those prominent people such as Bruce Lee and Albert Einstein.

Although it has some good effects, it is still not widely accepted in our society. In the perception of other people and of the church is that they are as if playing God. Life and death is natural in every way. And although the idea of a clone sounds pretty attractive, no one knows how the clone will behave and will he/she develop similar personalities like its master clone. With this kind of technology, we may also losing the diversity of genes human cloning is just copying the identical genes, which means it will decrease the diversity of genes. Furthermore, the beauty of humanity lies in the differences we see in each other. Cloning would eliminate surprise and predict expectancy. And most of all, the uncertainty of science technology may lead to unexpected results.

Cloning technology is such a great way to improve the lives of the people and of the community but still it is not yet approved by the society and is not accepted throughout the world. More research and studies may be done in the future. But as for now, people should be content of what they have and what they are.

Human Cloning: The Island (movie review)

Human Cloning: The Island (movie review)

In the movie, there was a private corporation selling this organ-replacement service to wealthy clients, and telling them the organs are grown in a laboratory. But in reality, the corporation is cloning these wealthy clients and growing entire adult human being and then harvesting those clones when the replacement organs are needed by the paying clients.

Cloning is used for medical purposes, to revive endangered species, to cure genetic illnesses, for body replacements, to cure infertility and to take a step forward to immortality. Human cloning essentially means taking a human being's DNA and reversing its age back to zero and also, we may be able to cure cancer if cloning leads to a better understanding of cell differentiation.

Though cloning has benefits, there are still reasons why human cloning is banned and it is due to playing God, religion, embryos at risk, embryos killed and human rights. During the human cloning process, a lot of human embryos are created and tested for viability. Some are either discarded or frozen for future use. This is why it is heavily debated if killing a human embryo that is only a few living cells is murdering a person.

It is also heavily debated whether experimenting human embryo that are grown in the laboratory is accepted in the society. We all know that cell is the basic unit of life and embryo is defined as is the person as it develops from the single cell of the zygote. And so from the definition itself, it is already a cell. Some people said that it should be accepted since they are embryos formed in the lab and are still used to extend life span. Other said that it shouldn’t be since it already has a life and experimenting embryos means experimenting life. Since not all experimentation are successful, this embryo, which has a life already, may be wasted. And also, we can’t ensure if there will be mutations somewhere in the future.

Cloning has helped human beings to extend life span though it has some disadvantages. That is why it is still debated whether sacrificing a new life for the old life or just choosing the new life. This is still very controversial.
