Human Cloning: The Island (movie review)

Human Cloning: The Island (movie review)

In the movie, there was a private corporation selling this organ-replacement service to wealthy clients, and telling them the organs are grown in a laboratory. But in reality, the corporation is cloning these wealthy clients and growing entire adult human being and then harvesting those clones when the replacement organs are needed by the paying clients.

Cloning is used for medical purposes, to revive endangered species, to cure genetic illnesses, for body replacements, to cure infertility and to take a step forward to immortality. Human cloning essentially means taking a human being's DNA and reversing its age back to zero and also, we may be able to cure cancer if cloning leads to a better understanding of cell differentiation.

Though cloning has benefits, there are still reasons why human cloning is banned and it is due to playing God, religion, embryos at risk, embryos killed and human rights. During the human cloning process, a lot of human embryos are created and tested for viability. Some are either discarded or frozen for future use. This is why it is heavily debated if killing a human embryo that is only a few living cells is murdering a person.

It is also heavily debated whether experimenting human embryo that are grown in the laboratory is accepted in the society. We all know that cell is the basic unit of life and embryo is defined as is the person as it develops from the single cell of the zygote. And so from the definition itself, it is already a cell. Some people said that it should be accepted since they are embryos formed in the lab and are still used to extend life span. Other said that it shouldn’t be since it already has a life and experimenting embryos means experimenting life. Since not all experimentation are successful, this embryo, which has a life already, may be wasted. And also, we can’t ensure if there will be mutations somewhere in the future.

Cloning has helped human beings to extend life span though it has some disadvantages. That is why it is still debated whether sacrificing a new life for the old life or just choosing the new life. This is still very controversial.

SHE RECEIVED MY LETTER.

SHE RECEIVED MY LETTER.

And I'm just so glad because she received my letter a while ago and her cousin told me that I was good at poems. hahaha. Is this for real? I really don't know what my talen is and maybe writing poems is my talent. Oh my. Is this for real? My voice don't sound that good, really. But I think, I can write poems. Maybe I can write some poems and write it in here. Anyway it's here, my poem I made for her.

If I'll see you again
By: Alyssa

If I'll see you again,
Then I'll bring you a hen,
That was your favorite,
With some peanuts to eat.

I'll reach your hand to hold,
With my bare hands so cold.
"I miss you dear Aprille",
Wondering if this is real..

We'll travel back the past
That has gone very fast
Those moments we wander
In skies and we wonder

We'll reminisce those times
When the song we sang rhymes
Singing like an addict
"It will rain", we predict

Trying to remember,
Sportsfest in November,
Graduation in April,
We had much fun and thrill.

Then I'll tell you something,
Covers up everything,
No matter if you're far,
We'll still love who you are.

With some peanuts to eat,
That was your favorite,
Then I'll be you a hen,
If I'll see you again.

Stress among teenagers

Busy and modern lifestyle is what most people blame why they are stressed. Stress is known to be a contributor to many emotional disorders and somatic illness. When stress is induced as a result of the individual’s not being able to meet his needs or demands and satisfy his desires, conflict results. Frustrations occur when a need is not met. There are many reasons why a teenager gets stressed. Reasons like changing schools, high expectations placed upon them by, negative feelings about oneself/low self-esteem, not fitting in socially, family dysfunction, pressures due to grades and homework and being ahead or behind in physical development are usually the main causes why.

Stress is simply a fact of nature that forces from the inside or outside world affecting the individual. In general, stress is related to both external and internal factors. External factors include the physical environment, your relationships with others, your home, and all the situations, challenges, difficulties, and expectations you're confronted with on a daily basis. Internal factors determine your body's ability to respond to, and deal with, the external stress-inducing factors. Internal factors which influence your ability to handle stress include your nutritional status, overall health and fitness levels, emotional well-being, and the amount of sleep and rest you get. But most teenagers are having problems with the external factor.

External factors of stress don’t just affect you physically but also mentally. When we are stressed, most probably, our personality is also affected. There are common behavioral symptoms that don’t even know that they are. In most teenagers, eating more or less, sleeping too much or too little and isolating yourself from others are the most common behavioral changes that usually occur. They tend to be irritably and feel very depressed. Our relationships to other people are also at risk because we became very inconsiderate. Cognitive Symptoms includes memory problems, inability to concentrate, poor judgment, seeing only the negative and constant worrying. The individual responds to stress can affect the individual as well as their environment.

When we are stressed the neurotransmitters, responsible for sending and receiving messages between cells, namely Serotonin, Noradrenaline and Dopamine are depleted. Serotonin is responsible for setting waking and sleeping patterns and usually the first messenger to begin to fail under distress, and this failure will cause sleeplessness. Noradrenaline regulates our energy levels and usually when this neurotransmitter begins to fail, overly stressed teens will begin to feel a lack of energy, and they won’t feel like they have the energy to get anything done. Dopamine runs the pleasure center of the brain. Its failure will cause an inability to take pleasure in things that one used to enjoy. These three are the first affected parts in our brain when we get stressed.

Fortunately, there are effective ways to prevent it. One way is to, teach yourself how to focus on things you can control and letting go of things you cannot control. Why waste your time on worrying things that you can’t control? Rehearsing and practicing feared situations is also helpful to control our fears. For example, you have a stage-fright. Maybe you can practice at home and pretend to be talking in the public while facing mirror. You should learn how to accept yourself as you are and identifying unique strengths and building on them, but realizing no one is perfect. Always try to maintain positive feelings about yourself. No one needs to be perfect to have a happy life. Don’t think every negative thought because this may just bring you down. Take a break from stressful situations. Whenever you are in a stressful situation, always find time to do a hobby. In my case, I listen to music to soothe my brain. If the given ways didn’t work, try sharing your problems with other people whom you trust. Sharing your problems to other people may comfort you and may also enlighten your mind that you are not alone. Because this may promote a social circle that will automatically help you in times of stress. And above all, enjoy life's simple pleasures. Be happy on what you have.

LAST DAY OF EXAMINATION.

Exams are finish. But first semester is not yet over. We still have to pass some projects such as scrap book for our NSTP and our OI paper for our Chem16 Lab. Anyway, I slept at 3 am yesterday and my father woke me up at 5:00 so that I can study again. My head aches. Oh, that was my first time to be awake in the dawn and STUDYING CHEMISTRY! Chemistry is my worst subject ever! And I didn't know why the hell I took food technology. Anyway as you see I am really trying and doing my very best. I study bulks of books just to make sure I understand each and every detail of our topic but everything seems to be useless. I still get disappointing grades. Worst, most of them didn't pass. My classmate just told us a while ago that three in our section failed Bio. And we are just 7 in Bio. And I'm just afraid that I may be one of them. I don't want to retake that subject anymore. I dont want to suffer a semester again with Biology! What's wrong? I studied but it's worthless!

Biology is just one of my problems, here Chem16 goes. This may be the reason why I'm failing and hesitating. Hesitating to take its prerequisite. Prerequisite refers to a subject in which you have to pass a subject so that you can take the next subject. For example, in my case, I have to pass Chem16 so that I can take Chem17. Worst, I have to pass both laboratory and lecture. Even though percentage from the lecture is higher, still I can't take up Chem 17 unless I pass both. And that is my BIG problem. I passed laboratory, I don't think so with Lecture. How am I going to over come this? I just hate it because no matter I studied very hard, I still failed the exams. I don't know what's the right thing to do. I just feel very very hopeless and very depressed and frustrated. I spend my whole weekend studying Chem16 instead of going to Samal for a Family reunion. I sacrificed my family reunion just for Chem but still, I failed it!

Anyway, I have this motto that I would like to share to those students who were like me,studying but still gets lows scores. No matter how hard the journey is, no matter how far the goal is, we have to keep going. We should not be very affected with our grades. After all, they are just.... grades. That's all.

Surviving college is not the same with high school, where you can just depend to your classmates for assignments and quizzes. College life is different especially when you are studying in a state university. Though our passing mark is 60%, it's still very hard to get that kind of grade. What I mean is that you have to suffer sleepless nights just to get a grade of 60. And to tell you, you'd be really be very thankful if you got one. My friends who studied at private schools told me why the hell my grades are very low? Compare to them, they got 80's and 90's. That very far from our normal grades. Where in the world would a school recognize a grade of 45% ? This is really stupid but this is how the story goes.

Anyway, whatever happens, Life goes on.

The Modern Filipinos

Filipino values evolve as time travels as well as the way they respond to their culture and the people that surrounds them. Filipinos used to be very patriotic such as Dr. Jose Rizal, our national hero who sacrificed his life for the sake of his countrymen. Filipinos are also known for their hospitality. Indeed, because they’ll treat you as if you’re a king. They will offer you almost anything available in their kitchen. They are also very respectful since they use po and opo every time they talk to a grown up. This is the trademark of the Filipinos. I classified Filipinos into different classes:

The great pretenders. Those are the Filipinos who migrate from the Philippines to other country such as Europe and America, where the salary is equivalent to dollars and time of worked is counted per hour. Who wouldn’t grab the opportunity to have a better life? And then after few years of working there, you won’t recognize them as they began acting like European citizens. Some even applied almost every beauty product just to make their skin fairer. Sometimes, they won’t talk to you in tagalong and they’ll keep on insisting that they look like American citizens. They are the Filipinos who thought that beauty products and different kinds of medicines can change the reality that they are Filipinos.

The Imported products buyers. Filipinos, in reality, hardly trust and buy they own product. It seems that you’ll look more fashionable and richer if your things came from the U.S. Sadly, foreign countries are encouraged to sell more products here and that means an additional income to them. How about the local products? They’ll just vanish that you won’t notice that they exist. Local industries are discouraged because local products will just be ignored anyway. And in this way, how will our economy grow? Most Filipinos thought that imported products has a better quality and has a better appearance compare to the local ones. This wrong idea has poisoned the minds of the people, even until the present.

The Fake lovers or china-china products. These are the Filipinos who are addicted to new gadgets and fashioned fake clothes came mostly from China. They are the ones who are loyal buyers of the new units of cell phones and camera in the pirated stores. The prices and the quality are both low. But even though, most Filipinos prefer these kinds of products since they are affordable and new. They just don’t realize that these things compare to the original ones, won’t last long and that they have to buy another one, which is not very inefficient.

The tsismosas. They are most of the time the root of all rumors. They are at the nearby store almost all day long talking about the famous people in their village and creating bad impressions and then spread it throughout. They are annoying because instead of finding a job for their family, they just sit there and talk all day long. They intrude other people lives instead of fixing theirs.

The gangsters or tambay. These are the teenagers who lost themselves mainly because of the poverty. Under this type are the young boys and sometimes, girls that you can spot in the busy streets especially in downtowns. Instead of studying, they are roaming around in the streets with their group of friends and that is that is their daily basis. They are often suspected to be snatchers. They are supposed to be the light of the nation.

I classified different kinds of modern Filipino attitudes based on my observations to their day to day life. It doesn’t mean that these are the only attitudes that existed but rather, they are the ones that are commonly noticed in our modern Filipino society. Modern lifestyle has changed Filipino values though some of it has changed, few of it still remains. We should continue doing what we think is right for ourselves and the society. Wherever we are, we should not forget where we came from, we should not forget that we are raised in Philippines and the blood in our veins is pinoy. We only have one country. We may travel so many countries but we only have one hometown, Philippines. No matter you accept it or not, that is the reality and we should be proud of it. We should learn how to love our own country because we only have one nationality and one race. We should not be ashamed of it in spite of the status of the Philippines; instead, we should help each other to have a better society.

I found this in facebook and I was enlightened by this simple thoughts. I have realized that positive outlook in life has a very great impact in everything we do. Since I always think negative things sometimes, it will just worsen the situation. Life isn't perfect. There will be if life if there's no problems along the way. Problems shouldn't be the reason to give up rather a way to a greater hope. I believe that problems will help you develop yourself and will mold you as a person. I also believe that experience is the best teacher because above all, experience is the only way to know yourself better. I believe life isn't that easy but it isn't also that hard depending on your perspective in life. Learn to have goals. If you fail, go and stand up and show the world what you've got. Be positive! You live a life by making it. If you make it happy, everything will be happy. Be positive! Smell the flowers, taste the fruits and breathe the fresh air. After all, as long as there is life, there's hope... Go and make a life!

University of the Philippines, Mindanao (UPmin)

University of the Philippines, Mindanao (UPmin)

And I am totally here. My computer had a wonderful vacation to the computer technician for almost a month! I thought I were to die spending everyday without my computer. Oh my beloved computer! Anyways, I found this site nowhere, and I think you guys going to love it. CLICK HERE. Everything is great except that next week will be my FIRST DAY IN COLLEGE. How can I overcome this fact? My friends are very very far from me. Okay now, how am I going to live without them? Speaking of my school, I would like to introduce it to you.

(click the picture for a better view)

And so, I would like to introduce you to my new school. I haven't had taken a picture the whole campus but I'll promise to take some picture for the first months of my studying there. So this is the University of the Philippines, Mindanao. And I am going to take food technology there. How does that sounds? I'm not yet ready for college. I am not yet ready for the challenges that awaits for me there. But life is full of challenges. I am not a bright student, I am not a consistent honor student, that is why studying in UPmin is such a big big responsibility. This is a big opportunity for me since I never expected to be a student of Upmin. At the first day of our orientation held last May 5-6, 2011. And that was the first time I first saw my batch mates. and my first impressions are, they are kinda boastful but wise. I don't know how to be friends with them. And what I expect is that my college years will be full of problems and worries. Problems about my lessons and worrying about my grades.

I'm going to miss my high school life. I will miss everything about my memories. I cant ever forget how we used to eat with my besties every lunch and recess. I'll going to miss my teachers who keep on giving us second chances in our projects. I'll going to miss getting a late slip. I'll going to miss every time I copy my classmates' homeworks. I'll miss our noises. I'll miss every song we sang when our teacher isn't around. I'll miss those practices that we always took for granted and though the finished product isn't that perfect at least, we were contented. I'll going to miss every time we walk from school to the mall. Since the mall from our school is just a few steps. I'll just going to miss everything.

I am used to be with my bestfriends and friends all the time. Now that they are all gone, HOW AM I GOING TO SURVIVE? HOW AM I GOING TO ACCEPT THE REALITY THAT WE CAN'T BE FOREVER? Easy problem for some, but terrible for me.  what a life!
